Sanibel has a history as a very safe city and place to visit. In 2017 the National Council for Home Safety and Security named Sanibel as the 7th safest city in Florida. The 2018, 2019, and 2020 rankings for the survey do not include populations lower than 10,000, so Sanibel was excluded.
